After COVID 19 we are a different society. We are the new normal. Start again immediately, because step two does not last forever. Let’s get ready and change quickly. Economist J. Rifkin reveals what you need to focus on.
After COVID 19, after the ongoing epidemiological and economic crisis, which is transforming us, as already proven by several scientists in this article, we are the new normal today. From this point, we must start again to don’t get drawn into the abyss of the economic crisis. The very well know economist Jeremy Rifkin, recently interviewed in an Italian newspaper, shows us the trends to follow.
Jeremy Rifkin is the main director of the Third Industrial Revolution (TIR) global long-term economic sustainability plan. This hyper-continental project aims to face the challenge of three contemporary crises: global economic, energy security, and climate change. The Third Industrial Revolution was formally approved by the European Parliament in 2007 and is now being adopted by several agencies within the European Commission.
“GLOBALIZATION IS DEAD AND BURIED, SOCIAL DISTANCE WILL BE THE RULE.”J. Rifkin
Rifkin is the world guru of the sustainable economy and reveals a series of opportunities to reflect, understand, and act where to direct your efforts:
1. Study and analyze new social’s events.
Nothing will be like before, we are already the New Normal as reiterated by several scientific exponents, including Gideon Lichifield, see the dedicated article:
- new ways of interacting between us,
- different methods of procuring goods,
- the world becomes “1 meter away”.
We have to study and adapt to this new environment. Understand how to propose new solutions, to open up to new markets.
2. Glocal and local economies.
Globalization as we have known it to date is dead and gone. After COVID the new term is Glocal. In the European Parliament, economic conversion began from a new point of view: between regional affinities. Finding the characterizing elements in the regions close to each other. There are investments of the type:
to enhance local and regional activities because they relate to each other and their environment. Your business would propose to have an interest in these grants.
3. Regional governments: the Bioregions.
Governmental areas that share the Glocal, regional needs are identified as Bioregions. After COVID 19, 300 experts in various sectors of that area will propose sustainable actions for 10 months. Proposing yourself as an expert is an opportunity. This plan is being implemented and managed by the President of the European Parliament, Von Der Leyen. In the United States, a similar project is under construction supported by the gritty Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, already known by ILTP.
4. Local tourism.
Due to the pandemic, we learn that our biggest mistake is climate change, the climate emergency. Are we ready for sustainable demand? Migrations are already underway. With new practical methodologies, they will soon resume:
- we must learn to share sustainably with those who flee from unsustainable realities,
- we must offer the riches of our regions to cultural sharing.
5. Green deal, eco friendly and organic.
So digital too has definitely established itself in our new daily life. See for example the conference calls that will make us move less for work.
“WE MUST DECREASE THE WASTE OF FOSSIL FUELS … THE TEMPORAL HORIZONS BEGIN TO SHRINK, WE HAVE 20 YEARS left!”J. Rifkin
No widespread impoverishment will occur, on the contrary. Remember that it was the pandemic that generated the economic crisis and not the other way around. Our economies were evolving before the virus.
Today we have this “very bitter occasion” to make the change towards social capitalism: capital drawn from fossil fuels for green deals and all related industries.
We will therefore use the new TIR resources:
- Internet of things (IOT),
- digitalizzazione trasversale, per tutte le attività produttive,
- fonti rinnovabili collegate.
We are the new normal, nothing will be as before, let’s not miss this opportunity.
Jeremi Rifkin, economist for sustainability.
